ALM First was founded in 1995 with the focus on financial advisory for credit union clients. Through a strong dedication to service and risk management, ALM First grew its base beyond credit unions and has maintained lasting relationships with hundreds of credit union, bank and financial services company clients. Emily Hollis, CFA

Emily Hollis, CFA

Chief Executive Officer

Emily Hollis has served as a principal of ALM First Financial Advisors since the company was established in 1995. Under her leadership, the company has steadily grown to a client base of more than 200 financial institutions representing more than $220 billion in assets.

A well-known figure in the investment community and a renowned expert in asset liability management, Ms. Hollis is a popular speaker at industry functions. Speaking engagements have included sessions for the Financial Managers Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well a number of bank and credit union trade associations. Ms. Hollis is also a loyal contributor to bank and credit union publications such as Credit Union Business, CU Times, CUNA Councils, Bank ALM, Western Banker Magazine and more.

Prior to ALM First, Ms. Hollis was vice president for Kidder Peabody Asset Management; chief investment officer for a large financial institution; and an investment trader for a New York Stock Exchange Company, responsible for executing trades for the firm’s fixed-income and foreign receivable portfolios. Her experience includes managing a $6 billion fixed-income investment portfolio and investing in derivatives.

Ms. Hollis holds a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in arts from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Mike Ensweiler

Mike Ensweiler

Principal, Marketing & Client Relations

Mike Ensweiler is a Principal at ALM First Financial Advisors, joining the firm in 2009. Mike leads the sales team where he develops the firm’s sales and growth strategies. In addition to sales, Mike manages all areas of marketing and client relations for the firm. He has an extensive financial services background, with success in helping financial institutions increase their productivity and strengthen their bottom lines.

As an “industry insider” with first-hand knowledge of financial institution operations, Mr. Ensweiler uses his relationship management skills, along with his proficiency in asset liability management and balance sheet strategies, to identify appropriate solutions for prospective financial institutions. Mr. Ensweiler has shared his expertise at various industry conferences and facilitates strategic planning sessions for financial institutions across the country.

Mr. Ensweiler began his financial services career in 1992 and has progressively moved up the ranks to hold senior positions. His experience includes serving on the Senior Management Team at Minnesota Corporate FCU and Mid-States Corporate. Additionally, he has held positions in consumer lending, operations and accounting at several credit unions and a community bank.

Mr. Ensweiler received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and earned the Certified League Executive designation from CUNA’s League Management Institute at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Travis Goodman, CFA

Principal, Advisory Services

Travis Goodman is a Principal at ALM First Financial Advisors, joining the firm in 2003. Mr. Goodman oversees the Advisory Services department, which is responsible for implementing actionable and effective ALM and investment strategies for client financial institutions. In addition to overseeing Advisory Services, he assists large, complex financial institutions in achieving optimal performance within policy and risk tolerances.

Mr. Goodman has led numerous training events at financial industry conferences, individual client Board meetings, and regulatory training workshops. His topics of expertise include portfolio management, risk assessment and risk management, portfolio construction, and advanced portfolio strategies.

Mr. Goodman has a bachelor of science degree in business administration, with a double major in finance and marketing, from the Eller School of Business at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Kevin Kirksey
Principal, Strategic Solutions Group
Kevin Kirksey

Principal, Strategic Solutions Group

Kevin Kirksey is a Principal at ALM First Financial Advisors, joining the firm in 2011. Mr. Kirksey oversees the Strategic Solutions Group, which conducts merger valuations, capital planning and stress testing, ALM and CPST model validations, CECL analysis, MSR analysis, and fosters many hedging strategy relationships. Mr. Kirksey also manages firm-wide modeling assumptions, new analyst training, and performs general analytics for product development. Additionally, Mr. Kirksey serves as the Chief Compliance Officer for the firm while overseeing operations.
Mr. Kirksey has shared his expertise at various conferences and industry organizations including AmericanBanker, CPA firm and societies, FMS Chapters, Western Independent Bankers, The Knowledge Group, credit union leagues, state banking associations, NCUA, and client education sessions. His areas of expertise include loan participations and whole loan trading, mortgage servicing rights, merger valuations, as well as the role of assumptions and the resulting impact on balance sheet strategies. He has provided guest lectures at regional universities, such as the University of Texas at Dallas and Texas A&M, on M&A and bank valuation. Mr. Kirksey has also been published and quoted in numerous publications including SNL Financial, WIB Directors Digest, CU Times, and CU Journal.

Previously, Mr. Kirksey worked on Goldman Sachs’ mortgage trading desk, where he analyzed whole loan trades and securitizations and performed mortgage valuations for various capital raises, mergers, and IPOs.

Mr. Kirksey received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College in North Carolina.

Robert Perry

Robert Perry

Principal, ALM & Investment Strategy

Robert Perry is a Principal at ALM First Financial Advisors, joining the firm in 2010. Mr. Perry leads ALM First’s ALM and Investment Strategy Groups and is responsible for the development of asset liability and investment portfolio themes for the firm. He also provides strategic focus for financial institution client portfolios that are primarily invested in the high credit quality sectors, and is instrumental in balance sheet hedging strategy development.

Mr. Perry has more than 27 years of experience in the banking and bank-consulting businesses. Mr. Perry has shared his in-depth knowledge and financial management background at many conferences, training and educational events in the areas of ALM and investment strategy, profitability and portfolio strategies, as well as hedging and derivatives use. Mr. Perry has been quoted and published in various publications including WIB CFO Digest, WIB Directors Digest, Credit Union Business, and many more.

Before joining ALM First, Mr. Perry previously served as Managing Director of the ALM and Investment Strategy division of DataTech Management in Los Angeles, California, and Chief Investment Officer for First Coastal Bank in Manhattan Beach. Previously, Mr. Perry was a Principal and Product Portfolio Manager at Smith Breeden Associates, Inc., where he managed Smith Breeden’s Enhanced Cash and Enhanced Equity Strategies. He also managed Smith Breeden’s bank consulting group, which included the non-discretionary asset management and risk-reporting businesses. Prior to joining Smith Breeden in 1991, he worked as an analyst in the risk management area of Centura Bank in North Carolina.
