Treasury yields are following oil prices higher this morning after President Trump pledged to enforce a military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz beginning this morning.
The blockade threat follows a breakdown in US-Iran talks in Pakistan over the weekend. Risk assets are weaker to start the week, with US equity index futures down 64 to 100 basis points an hour ahead of the open. This week’s economic calendar is somewhat lighter relative to the last two weeks, but March PPI report released tomorrow could provide further insight in wholesale inflation pressures. Recent PPI reports have showed signs of a delayed passthrough of tariffs by US companies. Several Fed leaders will speak this week, including Governor Shephen Miran later today as part of a moderated discussion.
