It’s a relatively quiet start to the week for global financial markets ahead of several central bank meetings this week.
US/Iran talks stalled again this weekend, but Axios is reporting that Iran sent a proposal via Pakistan that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz while postponing nuclear talks to a later date. In addition to Wednesday’s FOMC meeting, the Bank of Japan, the Bank of England, and the European Central Bank will all hold policy meetings this week. The Department of Justice closed its investigation into Fed Chair Powell late last week, and Senator Thom Tillis suggested yesterday it would be enough for him to drop his blockade of Kevin Warsh. Powell may still choose to stick around a little while on the Board of Governors until he feels comfortable that there are no other “wildcards” at play.
