Treasury yields are 1-4 basis points higher (and steeper) following a relatively quiet overnight session.
Treasury yields are modestly higher and steeper to start the week. PIMCO, one of the world’s largest fixed income asset managers, said yesterday that it was cutting exposure to long-term U.S. government debt because of deteriorating fiscal deficit dynamics and potential inflation catalysts from tariffs and immigration restrictions on the labor force. The commentary was titled “Thoughts from the Bond Vigilantes,” a reference originally coined by Ed Yardeni in the 1980s but made famous during the Clinton administration in 1993/94 when large bond investors initiated a wave of selling in Treasuries that pushed 10-year yields nearly 300 bps higher in less than a year over concerns about federal spending. Later today, the Treasury will issue $58 billion of new 3-year notes, and the next major economic data release will be tomorrow’s November CPI report, which is expected to show a third consecutive 0.3% monthly increase in core prices.
