The Treasury curve is twisting modestly steeper as the market awaits tier 1 labor market and inflation data for January later this week.
The delayed January jobs report will be released on Wednesday morning, which is expected to show 69,000 jobs to nonfarm payrolls, and the January CPI report will be released on Friday. There was some attention paid to a headline that Chinese regulators reportedly advised banks to reduce holdings of U.S. Treasuries due to concerns over market volatility. The report was attributed to unidentified sources and doesn’t apply to China’s state holdings (most significant exposure), so it’s unlikely as big of a news story as the headline would suggest. Several Fed leaders will speak this afternoon, including Governor Chris Waller who dissented at the last FOMC meeting in favor of another rate cut.
