Global financial markets are on firmer footing today despite no signs of de-escalation in the Middle East.
President Trump suggested over the weekend that the US and Iran are in some level of negotiations to end the conflict, but Iran has denied any such talks. Oil prices are essentially flat, which is helping boost US equity index futures this morning (+0.68%-1.10%). Treasury yields are down 3-5 basis points. This week’s economic calendar is headlined by the Wednesday FOMC meeting. There is no expectation of a rate change by the Fed, and markets will be more focused on the assessment of current conditions and forward guidance, including the updated Summary of Economic Projections.
