China’s decision to let its currency weaken relative to the dollar sparked a selloff in Asian currencies and a broad rally in Treasuries overnight.
The move was part of ongoing efforts to stimulate the country’s struggling economy. There are no data releases in the U.S. today, but multiple Fed leaders are scheduled to speak, including Fed Chair Powell this morning at a Fed Listens event. The House is set to vote today on a $1.2 trillion bipartisan spending bill that would fund defense, homeland security, and other discretionary programs. If passed, it would leave the Senate only hours to pass a package of six bills covering 2/3rds of the government’s $1.66 trillion discretionary spending budget to avoid a shutdown.
