Treasury yields are 5-10 bps lower to start the week with the long end moving the most (curve flatter).

Japan is closed for holiday today, and trading activity is relatively low according to street color, which exacerbates directional moves. This week should be noisy. In addition to election day tomorrow, we have a FOMC meeting on Thursday. Fed fund futures remain priced for a 25-basis point cut this week, but it wouldn’t be a major surprise if Fed chose to pause this week given the data released since the September meeting. Regarding the election, there is a high likelihood that we won’t know which party will control the White House and both houses of Congress tomorrow night. Clean sweeps are expected to lead to larger fiscal deficits and, therefore, a greater impact on benchmark yields, while divided government is expected to lead to a more muted market response.
