Estimated

Personal income rose more than expected last month, rising 0.8% vs 0.3% expected, while personal spending fell from the prior month.

Inflation-adjusted spending came in at +0.1% for April vs +0.7% for March. Core PCE rose in line with expectations at +0.1% m/m and +2.5% y/y. The increase in spending was driven by an uptick in service-related outlays. The tepid growth in spending is just one indication of a slowing economy, as Americans remain anxious about the country’s economic direction.
