Treasury yields are leaking higher after the Royal Bank of Australia became the first of the major central banks (excluding Japan) to announce a rate hike following a relatively light rate cut cycle.

The RBA cited rising inflation risks as the basis for its unanimous policy decision. Precious metals are rallying today after a historic collapse from record high prices in recent days. The price of spot gold is up nearly 6% today, and silver +12% as dip buyers emerge. The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced yesterday that labor market data, including the January jobs report scheduled for release on Friday, would be delayed due to the partial government shutdown. Regarding the latter, the House Rules Committee voted to move the Senate funding package forward for a full vote, which could end the shutdown as soon as today. Two Fed leaders are speaking this morning, including Governor Michelle Bowman.
